Technology Manager (Mobile Web & API) - Life Insurance Group

In this role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of mission-critical mobile web APIs that power payment, notification, and claims processing systems for our client's life insurance platform. You’ll bridge the gap between strategic objectives and hands-on implementation, ensuring our applications are scalable, secure, and highly available.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end delivery of mobile web API projects, from requirements gathering and architecture design through testing and production rollout.

• Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, and business analysts to translate business needs into technical solutions.

• Manage a hybrid team of onsite and offshore engineers, setting priorities, tracking progress, and conducting regular reviews.

• Maintain hands-on coding involvement for critical components, championing best practices in code quality, security, and performance optimization.

• Establish and monitor API performance metrics, SLAs, and incident response processes.

• Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on mobile web API development.

• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, authentication schemes (OAuth2, JWT), and API gateway technologies.

• Proven track record managing both onsite and offshore development teams, with strong stakeholder management skills.

• Hands-on proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Java, C#, Node.js) and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.

• Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in the insurance or financial services industry.

• Familiarity with payment processing platforms, push notification services, or claims management workflows.

• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).

• Chinese language ability for interfacing with local partners (helpful but not mandatory).
