Position Overview

We are supporting our client, A Prominent Finance Firm in HK, seeking a high-caliber Principal Tech Lead to join the Trading Division. This is a strategic leadership role designed for a technologist who excels at bridging the gap between sophisticated system architecture and executive stakeholder management.

You will lead a specialized team responsible for the design, delivery, and evolution of first-in-class systems, including trading platforms, market data dissemination etc. for the trading markets. This role is ideal for a leader who can articulate the "why" behind technical choices—evaluating the pros, cons, and trade-offs of emerging technologies to ensure our mission-critical infrastructure remains resilient and hyper-efficient.

Core Responsibilities

• Strategic Technical Leadership: Drive the roadmap for low-latency system design and development, focusing initially on surveillance platforms before expanding into high-performance trading infrastructure.

• Stakeholder Management: Act as a key intermediary between technical teams, business user divisions, and external regulators to define solutions based on complex business use cases.

• System Architecture & Resilience: Oversee the development of high-throughput systems, ensuring they meet rigorous standards for high availability, resiliency, and cybersecurity.

• Project Accountability: Take full ownership of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from initial architecture and risk assessment to implementation and production incident resolution.

• Team Development: Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering technical excellence and upholding strict organizational standards for compliance and technology control.

• Risk Mitigation: Continuously assess technological risks in a fast-growing market environment and drive proactive mitigation actions.

Requirements

Experience & Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in system design and development, specifically within financial services

• Proven Leadership: Extensive experience managing technical teams and navigating complex stakeholder environments.

Technical Competencies:

• Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of mission-critical systems.

• Architectural Fluency: Solid understanding of high-throughput system design, network programming, and resiliency patterns.

• Coding Foundations: While this is a leadership-focused role, you must have a strong hands-on background in Java (Whilst open to other tech stacks) to effectively guide technical strategy.

• Market Knowledge: A solid grasp of cash or derivatives market mechanics and the associated regulatory landscape.

Soft Skills:

• Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical trade-offs into clear business outcomes for non-technical stakeholders.

• Adaptability: A "technology-first" mindset with the ability to master new systems and tools rapidly.
