The Role & Landscape

As a Mainframe Storage Systems Programmer, you will spearhead the design, deployment, configuration, and fine-tuning of critical IBM z/OS storage subsystems. Embedded within a high-performing tier-1 financial infrastructure team, your day-to-day work directly dictates system availability and performance stability.

• Manage, configure, and maintain the comprehensive IBM DFSMS suite (DFSMSdss, DFSMSrmm, DFHSM).

• Oversee high-performance hardware, including IBM DS8000 and TS7700 Virtual Tape Systems (VTS).

• Architect and optimize SMS constructs, storage groups, and ACS routines to drive efficiency.

• Drive disaster recovery (DR) preparedness, managing replication configurations, FlashCopy, and Global Mirror executions.

• Develop robust automation frameworks utilizing REXX, CLIST, ISPF, and JCL to eliminate manual workflows.

• Deliver complex catalog management tasks, including master/user catalogs and ICFC catalog recovery operations.

What We Are Looking For

• Mainframe Pedigree: Extensive hands-on experience in IBM z/OS environment, specializing in storage management.

• Subsystem Expertise: Deep, practical command of DFSMS, DFHSM, DFSMSrmm, DFSMSdss, IDCAMS, and IEBCOPY.

• Hardware & Tape Management: Proven experience managing enterprise-grade SAN hardware (IBM DS8000, TS7700, or equivalent enterprise storage systems) and virtual tape libraries.

• Scripting & Utilities: Highly proficient in writing and debugging JCL, REXX, CLIST, and utilizing SMP/E and standard z/OS utilities.

• Data Structures: Sound knowledge of Catalog Structures, VSAM, PDSE, and data set management.

• Monitoring Tools: Experience working with mainframe performance management tools such as OMEGAMON, MainView, or TMON.

• Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, excellent documentation habits, and a history of working within structured ITIL frameworks.
