IT Manufacturing Systems Director - Global Enterprise

The IT Manufacturing Systems Director is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the application development, portfolio management, and modernization of IT systems within a global manufacturing enterprise. This individual will drive the transformation of legacy applications, optimize system architectures, and ensure that the IT strategy aligns seamlessly with business objectives. Leading a strong applications team, the Director will foster innovation, champion Agile development practices, and enhance the digital capabilities that support manufacturing operations worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute a comprehensive application strategy that aligns with business needs and long-term IT goals.

• Oversee the application portfolio, ensuring system scalability, security, and future readiness.

• Lead efforts to modernize and replatform legacy applications, driving efficiency and innovation.

• Lead a strong applications team specializing in software development and system engineering.

• Mentor and empower team members, fostering expertise in application development and architecture.

• Establish KPIs and metrics to measure team performance, ensuring high-quality deliverables.

• Oversee full-cycle application development, from design and coding to deployment and ongoing improvement.

• Ensure adherence to best practices in coding standards, system security, and quality assurance.

• Develop a scalable IT architecture that enhances manufacturing operations and productivity.

• Act as a strategic partner to senior stakeholders, ensuring IT priorities are aligned with business objectives.

• Collaborate with leadership teams to drive technological innovation in manufacturing systems.

• Communicate IT strategies effectively across all levels of the organization.

• Champion Agile development practices and promote Scrum methodologies across IT teams.

• Ensure efficient, scalable, and iterative development processes that support business agility.

• Oversee financial planning for manufacturing IT, including budgeting, forecasting, and ROI analysis.

• Develop data-driven business cases to justify strategic IT investments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• A Master’s degree or MBA is highly preferred.

• Minimum 15 years in IT leadership roles, with expertise in application development and portfolio management.

• Strong foundation in software development, ideally having started as a developer.

• Proven track record of leading IT teams to build enterprise applications that enhance business operations.

• Experience in replatforming and modernizing legacy systems in a manufacturing setting.

• Demonstrated ability to manage senior stakeholders, including engagement with C-level executives.

• Expertise in Agile and Scrum methodologies; relevant certifications (Scrum Master, ITIL, PMI) are preferred.

• Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills.
